It has been a month of success for a couple of former Elon football coaches in their first seasons with new teams.

Curt Cignetti has directed Indiana to a 4-0 record, with Saturday’s 52-14 home victory against Charlotte the most recent result.

A week earlier, the Hoosiers won their third game under Cignetti by drilling UCLA 42-13 at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California.

Pete Lembo’s Buffalo team is 3-1 after winning 23-20 in overtime at No. 23 Northern Illinois on Saturday. That marked just the second victory against a ranked opponent in program history for Buffalo.

The only loss for the Bulls came at then-No. 9 Missouri in the second game of the season. Buffalo is 3-1 for only the third time in its Football Bowl Subdivision history.

Northern Illinois, which defeated then-No. 5 Notre Dame earlier this month, plays Saturday afternoon at North Carolina State.

Lembo coached at Elon from 2006-10 with a 35-22 record. Cignetti was in charge of the Phoenix for the 2017 and 2018 seasons with a 14-9 record.
