From the Publisher: Why no Leonard Harrison information

The Alamance News always solicits the views and biographical information from all candidates, regardless of party or philosophical persuasion, for all races on which we have developed an issues questionnaire for primary or general elections.

All six county commissioner candidates were sent the request on Friday early afternoon.

Within an hour, Harrison responded, “I’ll have the questionnaire done by the weekend.”

However, when neither the questionnaire nor the biographical information had been received by the newspaper’s deadline at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon that had been given to all candidates, the newspaper’s publisher began reaching out to find out where Harrison’s information was.

In a series of phone calls, emails, and voice messages, the newspaper’s publisher attempted to get Harrison to send in his responses.

At one point, Harrison said he had, in fact, sent the materials. But publisher Tom Boney, Jr. said they had not been received, and repeatedly urged Harrison to re-send the information or bring a paper copy to the news office.

On Wednesday morning, by email Harrison told the newspaper, “I’m having issues with my computer. It’s going into Geek Squad today.”

By the newspaper’s ultimate deadline on Wednesday evening before going to press, Harrison had not responded further.

Therefore, as all candidates had been told at the outset, his responses for each question listed in the survey, is “Refused to respond.”
