Graham’s police department has announced the arrest of a female motorist who allegedly shot another individual in what police describe as a “road rage incident.”
According to the city’s police department, Laila Summer McClain turned herself in on Wednesday – one day after she reportedly fired a gun during an altercation between the occupants of two vehicles near South Main Street’s intersection with Ivey Road.
This encounter reportedly occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday when the driver of one vehicle got out and began to harangue and physically assault a passenger in the second vehicle.
Although the police department doesn’t indicate McClain’s precise role in this dispute, it does note that the 25-year-old female discharged a gun and left the “other party” with “non-life threatening injuries” which were later treated at an area hospital.
According to the police department, McClain fled the scene of the shooting in a dark green 2005 Toyota Camry that bore the North Carolina license plate “JEX-8401. A resident of 734 Ivey Road, Apartment L, McClain has since been charged with the crime of assault with a deadly weapon, resulting in serious injury.
McClain has been placed under a $10,000 bond since her arrest.
