Mike Roshelli of Graham has won the North Carolina Super Senior Championship’s 70-and-older division at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount.
Roshelli shot rounds of 74 and 72 on separate days last week for a three-shot victory. His 2-over-par 146 marked a three-shot victory on Charlie Parks (73, 76) of Asheboro.
Roshelli recorded three birdies in each round. Parks had been the winner of the 2024 Carolinas Super Senior.
There were 48 entrants. Ed Donlin of Concord and William Boles of Wilson tied for third place with 152s.
In the 65-and-older division, Randall Sullins of Claremont was the champion with a pair of 72s for even-par 144. Paul Simson of Raleigh and Steve Sharpe of Greensboro tied for second at 145. There were 47 entrants, with Burlington’s Craig Cathey withdrawing after an opening-round 81.
Boteler bounced in match play at U.S. Mid-Amateur
Wade Boteler of Burlington advanced to match play in the U.S. Mid-Amateur, but he was eliminated in the round of 64 when that portion of the event began Monday in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Yaroslav Merkulov of Sodus, New York, defeated Boteler by 6 and 4. It was even through five holes before Merkulov won the next five holes.
Boteler tied for 45th in stroke play with rounds of 68 and 77 for 3-over-par 145 at Troon Country Club and Troon North Golf Club. Those rounds were held Saturday and Sunday.
Boteler, tied with 16 others, was seeded No. 55 for match play, with Merkulov at No. 10.
Williams alum Jerry Richardson Jr., a two-time high school individual state champion who lives in Cary, shot rounds of 73 and 79, putting him at 10-over 152. A score of 146 or better was needed to advance to match play.
After two rounds of stroke play, a field of 264 was trimmed to 64. The tournament is scheduled to wrap up Thursday.
Boteler and Richardson advanced to the U.S. Mid-Amateur based on their results last month in a qualifier at Alamance Country Club in Burlington.
