Southeast Alamance’s girls’ basketball team is closing in on a Mid-Carolina Conference championship.
The Stallions avenged a three-point loss to Seaforth with last week’s 55-53 road victory, putting the teams tied for first place coming into this week.
Natalie Lopez with 19 points, Clara LaChapelle with 18 points, and Inysia McIver with 14 points led the Stallions.
When Southeast topped visiting Graham 87-28 on Tuesday night, it stretched its winning streak to 10 games. The Stallions finish the regular season Friday night vs. visiting Cummings.
In other girls’ action:
- Graham won 40-33 at North Moore last week.
- Western Alamance defeated host Cedar Ridge 59-13 on Friday to clinch the Central 3-A Conference title.
Western, which fell 60-52 to visiting High Point Andrews in a non-league game last week, goes to Southern Alamance on Friday to end the regular season.
- Second-place Eastern Alamance handled visiting Southern Alamance by 72-27 in Tuesday’s Central 3-A Conference game. The Eagles visit Orange on Friday. Southern has lost 12 in a row.
- Williams won 54-42 at Providence Grove in Monday’s non-conference make-up game, guaranteeing a winning season. Because of a previously-scheduled middle school tournament at Williams’ gym, the game was held at Providence Grove.
Boys’ basketball
Eastern Alamance plays Friday night at Orange for at least a share of the Central 3-A Conference championship. Those two teams plus Roxboro Person all have two losses in league play.
Roxboro Person avenged a setback to Eastern with Friday’s 77-68 decision in Mebane despite 25 points from the Eagles’ Ja’vier Tinnin and 16 points from teammate Mason Murphy.
Eastern then socked visiting Southern Alamance 75-53 on Tuesday.
Southern’s losing streak is at seven games, including last week’s 61-59 non-league loss in overtime at Providence Grove.
- Western Alamance had a three-game winning streak after home victories against High Point Andrews by 66-45 and Cedar Ridge by 66-46 last week.
- Williams halted a five-game losing streak by winning 71-62 in Monday’s non-league game at Providence Grove as Cavion Stokes had 22 points, Kyrian Fuller posted 17 points, and Jaeden Smith collected 16 points. The Bulldogs trailed 48-46 going to the fourth quarter.
- After falling at Reidsville 75-53 in non-conference action last week with former Cummings player Johnniyus Sharpe scoring 21 points for the Rams, Southeast Alamance has won twice in the Mid-Carolina Conference.
The Stallions prevailed 60-46 at Seaforth and then drubbed visiting Graham 84-34. In the Reidsville game, James Kenan had 21 points and Donnie Fairley had 20 points for Southeast, while Reidsville’s Kendre Harrison was credited with 22 points and 23 rebounds.
- Cummings had a big second half to overcome visiting North Moore 82-70 in Tuesday’s Mid-Carolina Conference game.
- Alamance Christian School finished the regular season with a 19-3 record by defeating visiting Wilson Christian 51-33 on Tuesday.
