Jace Rich of Southern Alamance secured his 100th career wrestling victory when the regular season wound down for the Patriots.
Rich, a junior 157-pounder, went 3-0 on January 28 in regular-season make-up meets in a Central 3-A Conference quadrangular at Western Alamance.
He won by forfeits against Western Alamance and Roxboro Person, the second of those two representing his 100th victory. He then pinned an opponent from Williams.
Rich will be among the county’s leading contenders for the individual regionals this week.
Qualifying area wrestlers will be in regional competition Friday and Saturday. The Class 3-A Mideast Regional is at Cedar Ridge and the Class 2-A Mideast Regional is at Eden Morehead.
Top-four finishers in each weight class advance to the state tournament February 20-22 at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro.
Dual team state playoffs
Southeast Alamance’s run of upsets ended with last week’s 63-15 loss to host Seaforth in the Class 2-A East Regional semifinals. Seaforth went on later that night to win the regional by defeating Ayden-Grifton 55-24.
Southeast’s victories came with pins for 126-pounder Ajani Mungroo and heavyweight Jack Jennings and a decision for 106-pounder Judah Robinson.
On Saturday at Greensboro, Seaforth fell 34-32 to Rutherfordton-Spindale Central in the state final.
