Western Alamance alum Joshua Karty’s status in the NFL is in limbo after he was released by the Arizona Cardinals earlier this month.
Karty, a kicker, was in the Cardinals organization since being claimed off the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad late in the 2025 season. There were two games left in the season when he joined Arizona, but he never played in a game for the Cardinals.
Karty, 24, was re-signed by the Cardinals in April before this month’s move. Arizona’s recent decision indicates that the Cardinals are set on keeping Chad Ryland has their kicker.
The next step for Karty and his agent will be seeking a contract in the coming weeks. With NFL mini-camps mostly concluded with many teams locking in rosters prior to the preseason, the next few weeks might be a slow period for player transactions,
Karty lost his starting role with the Rams last fall and had been on the Los Angeles practice squad.
Karty, who had a stellar collegiate career for Stanford, was a sixth-round draft pick of the Rams in the 2024 NFL Draft. He spent about 1½ seasons as the team’s primary kicker, making 39 of 49 field goals and 55 of 62 extra points.
