Another week, another team for Mebane’s Zack Littell.
The big-league pitcher is with the Tampa Bay Rays after a short week’s stint with the Boston Red Sox.
He made his debut with his new team Tuesday night, throwing one inning of shutout relief in the Rays’ 8-5 victory at the New York Mets. He struck out all three batters he faced.
Littell, who in past years has pitched in the major leagues with the Minnesota Twins and San Francisco Giants, went to spring training this year with the Texas Rangers. He began the season with the Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express.
He was dealt to the Red Sox in a trade earlier this month. Two relief appearances later, he was designated for assignment last week. The Rays, who have the best record in the major leagues, claimed the right-hander on waivers, and he joined them at Yankee Stadium during the past weekend.
