Mebane’s Zack Littell threw a complete game for the first time in his major-league career when the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the host Houston Astros 16-3 on Saturday.
It was the first complete game for a Tampa Bay pitcher in almost four years. There have been 10 complete games pitched this year in the big leagues.
Littell, an Eastern Alamance alum, used 117 pitches – the most for a Rays pitcher in more than eight years – for his accomplishment. He gave up 10 hits and one walk while striking out six.
The Rays have won in Littell’s last seven starts. His record is 5-5, with his earned run average at 3.86.
