Mebane’s city council has “bought” about 4.5 acres of surplus land that the state Department of Transportation (DOT) had left over from its construction of the NC 119 bypass around Mebane.
Mebane’s city staff determined in the evaluation of the Fieldstone Farms pump station upgrade that a parcel of land between Highway 119 and the pump station lot was owned by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, as a “surplus” parcel from the NCDOT’s construction of the NC 119 Highway bypass.
The parcel consists of only 4.51 acres and is immediately contiguous to the pump station lot being acquired by the City. The NCDOT requires a payment of $1 per its standard agreement, which is what Mebane’s city council voted unanimously last week to do.
The council last month voted unanimously to buy the land where the city’s Fieldstone pump station is located on the edge of the subdivision from the Fieldstone Farms Homeowners Association, Inc. for $7,500 plus $2,500 for due diligence expenses.
