Mebane logos to be added to bridge along I-85/40

Mebane’s city council has agreed to spend about $37,000 to put up two “end cap” signs with the city’s logo on the new Trollingwood-Hawfields bridge over I-85/40.

When approaching Mebane from the east, this sign greets drivers near the Buckhorn Road exit, but the city has been unable to find a similar lot available on the western side of the city. The new end caps on the Trollingwood-Hawfields bridge will serve a similar purpose, welcoming drivers to Mebane.

The bridge is being widened as part of road improvements authorized when the Buc-ee’s travel plaza was approved.

City manager Richard White described that the logos would be placed on each side of the bridge. The council considered three design options during last week’s monthly meeting, before deciding on a round option with the “Mebane” logo [see illustration].

The council voted unanimously to move forward with the project; DOT will fabricate and install the medallions as the bridge work is completed.
