Mebane council approves annexation of 20 acres for future Summit Church site

Mebane’s city council unanimously agreed to annex about 20 acres at the corner of Old Hillsborough and Mebane Oaks roads where Summit Church plans to build a church for its Mebane congregation.

The members of the Mebane congregation have been meeting for the past seven years on Sunday mornings at Hawfields Middle School.

The church won rezoning approval in July for a 60,000-square-foot worship center and Sunday school classroom space.

Since then, work has already begun on an entryway into the church site.

Church officials estimated that overall construction might take about 18 months, perhaps being completed by January 2024.
