Miss Southern pageant to be held on Saturday

Southern Alamance High School will hold its Miss Southern Scholarship Pageant for 2023-2024 on Saturday, March 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the School’s auditorium, 631 Southern High School Road in Graham. Seven seniors will vie for the title. Miss North Carolina 2023 will be present to sing the National Anthem.

Malorie Evans is the daughter of Michael and Tara Evans. She is a member of the Southern Alamance Dance team and has been a part of the Southern Dance company the past four years.

She is a member of the National Honor Society of Dance and Arts, a new club at Southern called Dreamcatchers, and Link Crew where she has mentored freshmen with adapting to high school. Outside of school she is an active member of her church, singing on the worship team and volunteering in the nursery on Sundays. She is also a competitive dancer at the Centre Stage on Main in Gibsonville. She plans to attend ACC to earn her Early Childhood Degree and become a Preschool Teacher.

Lyndsey Ledbetter is the daughter of Danny and Leslie Ledbetter. Lyndsey has been on the Southern Alamance Dance team all four years of her high school career and was selected as a captain. She was inducted into the National Honor Society, as well as the National Honor Society of Dance Arts.

She is a member of Student Council, Dream Catchers, Link Crew, Dance Company, and is a Dance Company Choreographer. Lyndsey plans to obtain a BFA in commercial dance and minor in Dance Arts. Lyndsey plans to audition for the Radio City Rockettes in New York.

Jordyn Maness is the daughter of Frankie Maness and Andrea King. At school she is active on the Dance Team, National Honor Society of Dance and Arts. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Dreamcatchers, FCA, Link Crew and Student Council.

Outside of school she has participated on competitive dance teams at Center of Performing Arts and then went on to dance at Alamance Fine Arts Academy. She also works at Merle Norman. After high school she plans to attend school to become a nurse anesthetist.

Dakota Rutzen is the daughter of Mark and Pamela Rutzen. She is Drumline captain for the Southern Alamance High School Band. She is also a Link Leader.

Outside of school, Dakota loves singing and participating in karaoke nights. Dakota also works for her parents’ family business. She also plays softball. After high school Dakota plans to go to nursing school to become a registered nurse.

Emerson Smith is the daughter of Jason and Stephanie Smith. She is a member of Student Council, Link Crew, D.R.E.A.M. Team, National Honor Society, the National Society of Dance and Arts, Dance Company, and the Varsity Cheer Team.

She also attended North Carolina Governor’s School for dance. Outside of school Emerson has been a dancer at the Burlington Dance Center and is part of Young Life. She works for Tease and Blush Stylist. After high school she plans to attend a four-year college to study business administration.

Addison Stewart is the daughter of Elizabeth Stewart. She is also supported and encouraged by Jeff and Crystal Humble. At school she has been a member of color guard and was Co-Captain where she assisted in choreographing the show route.

She is also a member of National Honor Society and a Link Leader. At her previous school she was a member of the Air Force Junior ROTC Kitty Hawk Honor Society. Addison also loves reenacting the Revolutionary War. After high school Addison plans on attending college to study dental hygiene.

Kennedy Thornton, daughter of Chuck and Meredith Thornton. She has been a member of the Southern Alamance Dance Team since her freshman year. She is also a member of the National Honor Society of Dance and Arts, FFA, Dream Catchers and Student Council. Outside of school Kennedy has been a competitive dancer since the age of six at Center of Performing Arts.

She also volunteers at Lamb’s Chapel and Little Pink Houses of Hope as a dancer and choreographer. Kennedy plans to further her education in real estate and Interior Design at The Superior School of Real Estate in Greensboro.
