The second day of filing for 2026 elections brought out just three additional candidates, all incumbents of a sort.
Filing for election to a full, four-year term on the district court bench is Republican Bryan Ray, who was elected to a partial (two-year) term in 2024.
Also filing was newly-designated chairman of the county’s board of commissioners, Kelly Allen. Allen, a Republican, was designated by the Republican Executive Committee to fill the remainder of Craig Turner’s term, when he was elected to the district court bench in November 2024.
Allen was unanimously selected by her colleagues on Monday as the new chairman of the board of commissioners.
In non-partisan races, Dr. Eric Hall, who was appointed to fill the remaining months of Chuck Marsh’s school board seat earlier this year, filed for a full, four-year term on Tuesday.
Those filing Monday included: sheriff Terry Johnson, seeking a seventh four-year term as sheriff. A native of Snow Camp, Johnson, 75, has held the position of sheriff since the fall of 2002, when he became the first Republican in living memory to clinch this post in Alamance County.
Doug Green, 60, a Democrat who was appointed to superior court last year by then-Gov. Roy Cooper had announced last week his intention to run for election to the eight-year term associated with superior court seats and he filed Monday.
Similarly, Kristie Miller Culler, a Republican, who was appointed to fill the two years remaining on the Clerk of Court’s term when the previous clerk, Meredith Edwards, was elected to a district court judgeship in 2024, filed for election to the clerk’s post.
Incumbent Republican district attorney Sean Boone, also filed for reelection. He was first elected in 2022.
Two Democrats filed for county commissioner: Mebane city councilman Sean Ewing, who had previously announced his intention to seek the post; and Ramona Allen. Any additional candidates will trigger a Democratic primary for the two available seats, both now held by Republicans, on this year’s ballot.
Another Democrat, Levon Barnes, filed for state house seat 64, in a rematch to challenge incumbent Republican Dennis Riddell. In 2024, Riddell bested Barnes by roughly 55 to 45 percent.
Also filing for reelection in the non-partisan school board race was Dr. Charles Parker, who was first elected in 2022.
The filing period ends at noon on Friday, December 19.
