The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will soon begin construction to replace a 73-year-old bridge on NC 87 over Reedy Fork near Ossipee.
The $6.7 million replacement will begin with an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor installing signs and mobilizing equipment as early as July 18. Crews from Smith-Rowe LLC will start the project by building a temporary bridge.

By December, traffic in both directions of N.C. 87 should be using that temporary bridge, allowing crews to construct the new permanent bridge.
Construction of the new bridge is expected to be complete by the summer of 2024, according to DOT.
DOT advises motorists to remain alert and slow down as they travel near the work zone.
