Meritage Homes, the nation’s sixth-largest public homebuilder and an increasing presence in Alamance County new home construction, announced this week that it has closed on a 71-acre property in Graham that will be the home of a new single-family residential subdivision.
To be known as Cherry Creek, Meritage plans to build 185 single-family homes with 1,400 to 2,900 square feet along Jimmie Kerr Road and Cherry Lane on the eastern edge of Graham near Alamance Community College and the Hawfields-area industrial park.
Graham city council members unanimously rezoned the property in December in anticipation of 175 homes, according to materials prepared for their consideration at the time.
“This community will be ideal for first-time and move-up homebuyers seeking to upgrade their homes to our high standard of energy efficiency, live close to employment centers, local schools and downtown entertainment,” said Ric Rojas, Meritage’s Raleigh division president.
The company, which entered the Alamance County market over the past year, now has several projects in both Mebane (Bowman Village and Oakwood) and Graham (Stillhouse Farms).
Meritage says it hopes to begin Cherry Creek home sales in 2022.
