A woman from Burlington got a free ride to the county jail on Friday after she allegedly stole the car of an acquaintance who was chauffeuring her around in his vehicle.
According to the office of Alamance County’s sheriff, Kristina Renee White got behind the wheel of the car when the driver made a pit stop at a friend’s house and left the engine running.
The 22-year-old white female, who hails from 325 Cates Avenue in Burlington, was reportedly long gone by the time the vehicle’s owner emerged from his friend’s residence. The theft was reported to the sheriff’s office at 8:23 a.m.
Sheriff’s deputies ultimately caught up with White about three hours later while she was driving the stolen vehicle along Graham-Hopedale Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, White was charged with the felonious theft of a motor vehicle after she admitted taking the car. She has since been jailed under a $15,000 bond.
