Police announce suspect in Dec. 27 Camera Corner break-in

Police in Burlington believe they have identified the individual who burglarized a local camera retailer two days after Christmas last year.

On Friday, the city’s police department announced that it had issued warrants for 27-year-old David Eugene Dodson Smithe of York, South Carolina for his alleged role in the break-in at Camera Corner on December 27.

According to the police department, Smithe forced his way into the store’s premises at 2273 South Church Street shortly after midnight on the 27th and absconded with merchandise worth more than $10,000. He is consequently wanted for breaking and entering as well as larceny after breaking and entering.

The police department notes that it established Smithe’s identity with help from the municipal police departments in Spartanburg, South Carolina and Greenville, North Carolina.

Police urge anyone with information about Smithe’s whereabouts to contact the department at 336-229-3500 or call Crime Stoppers at 336-229-7100 to leave an anonymous tip.
