Police in Burlington have filed charges against both the suspect and victim in an alleged shooting that took place along May Drive over the weekend.
According to the city’s police department, officers encountered both Matthew Dale Thompson and Christopher Edward Stamps when they arrived at the 2300 block of May Drive in response to the shooting report shortly after 3:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The officers went on to identify the alleged shooter as Thompson and arrested him without incident. The 52-year-old white male of 1712 Traywick Court, McLeansville currently faces felony-level charges for assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and shooting into an occupied dwelling. He is also accused of a misdemeanor for allegedly discharging a firearm within Burlington’s municipal limits.
Court records identify Stamps as the apparent target of Thompson’s gunfire. Officers went on to file separate charges against the 30-year-old white male who resides at 2323 May Drive after a stash of “psychedelic mushrooms” was found in his possession.
These charges include felony-level possession of a Schedule I controlled substance as well as a misdemeanor violation for the possession of drug paraphernalia.
Court records indicate that Stamps has been placed under a $5,000 secured bond since his arrest while no bond has been authorized in the case against Thompson.
No one was injured due to the shooting.
