A 26-year-old Alamance County resident has been arrested for a discharge of gunfire that rattled one Mebane neighborhood more than a year ago.
Mebane’s police department issued a news release on Wednesday that names Kyle Treliek Johnson as the suspected perpetrator of this shooting, which occurred along the 900 block of Sugar Tree Drive in the small hours of the morning on April 21, 2024.
Court records indicate that the city’s police department originally filed an arrest warrant for the 26-year-old black male on September 18, 2024. The warrant wasn’t ultimately served until Wednesday, when Johnson was taken into custody for nine alleged felonies and three alleged misdemeanor offenses.
Johnson’s alleged violations include the felony-level charge of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling – an act that reportedly resulted in no injuries despite the multiple shell casings which were later found along Sugar Tree Drive.
Johnson also faces a misdemeanor charge for allegedly discharging a firearm within Mebane’s municipal limits, as well as eight felony counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle. These felony-level offenses stem from a string of vehicular break-ins that occurred on the date of the shooting. Mebane’s police department has also charged Johnson with two more misdemeanors for contributing to the delinquency of two minors who reportedly accompanied him on the alleged crime spree.
A one-time Mebane resident whose home address is currently listed as 268 Still Pastures Lane in Graham, Johnson also faces three other charges that Burlington’s police department filed against him on Wednesday. These alleged offenses include the felony-level crimes of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with the intent to sell or deliver the drug and the maintenance of a vehicle for illegal drug sales. Meanwhile, Johnson faces a misdemeanor violation for the alleged possession of stolen goods.
