Retiring Mebane asst. police chief recognized by city council

Byrd, who is retiring at the end of this year, began his career as a patrol officer with the Mebane police department in 1997 before being promoted in 2000 to the department’s Vice and Narcotics division. He was again promoted in 2003 to lieutenant; in 2005 to captain; and to assistant chief in 2009. Byrd is a graduate of the North Carolina Justice Academy’s Management Development Program and holds multiple advanced law enforcement certifications.
