A registered sex offender from Roxboro has been arrested after he allegedly had inappropriate contact with children in Burlington whom he had met over the Internet.
Joshua Tapp was ultimately taken into custody on May 22 following a two-week investigation by the Special Victims Unit within Burlington’s police department.
According to the police department, the unit’s investigators launched this inquiry on May 8 after they heard from a local parent who believed their child had illicit contact with an adult. The unit’s investigators went on to determine that Tapp had met up with several children whom he had corresponded with through social media.
A 34-year-old resident of Roxboro, Tapp was already on North Carolina’s sex offender registry when he came to the attention of Burlington’s Special Victims Unit during this inquiry.
He currently faces four counts of indent liberties, two counts of soliciting a child using a computer, one count of a statutory sex offense with a child under 15, and one count of a crime against nature.
Tapp has been jailed without bond since his arrest.
