Bo Williamson became so accustomed to winning in football and basketball when he played in high school that he’s constantly trying to instill that culture with his first team as a varsity coach.

Some of that comes full circle Friday night.

That’s when he takes his Southeast Alamance boys’ basketball to his alma mater to end the regular season in the Mid-Carolina Conference.

The Williamson family is well-connected to Cummings. Older brother Drew Williamson (now an assistant men’s basketball coach at Florida Atlantic) and Bo Williamson were Cavaliers during some of the glory years for Cummings athletics.

Bo Williamson said he knows being back on the Cummings campus will be special.
“All the photos in the gym and in the gym lobby,” he said, referring to displays of the Cavaliers’ championship history.

About an hour before Southeast’s home meeting with Cummings last month, Williamson said “can’t lose this one” in noting the importance of meeting the Cavaliers.

But it didn’t work out for the Stallions that night. Ja’Kway Robertson of Cummings hit the winning basket in the Cavaliers’ 68-66 victory.

The rematch has importance as Southeast (13-10 overall, 9-6 Mid-Carolina Conference) can pull into a third-place tie with Cummings (12-8, 10-5) with a victory. The Stallions will show up on a seven-game winning streak.

Tournament notes
Next week’s conference tournaments in the Central 3-A Conference and Mid-Carolina Conference will follow similar formats for both the boys’ and girls’ brackets.

First-round or quarterfinal games will be held at the site of the higher seeds.

In the Central 3-A Conference, semifinals and Friday night’s finals will be held at Roxboro Person.

For the Mid-Carolina Conference, the tournament semifinals and finals are scheduled for Northwood.
