Grant Bacchus and Elio Anguiano scored the goals as Western Alamance won 2-1 against host Southwestern Randolph in last week’s boys’ soccer showdown between two unbeaten teams that had reached state finals in their respective classes last year.
Bacchus also had an assist.
That Warriors followed that with Monday’s 5-0 triumph against visiting Cedar Ridge with Anguiano’s two goals along with one goal apiece from Bacchus, Franky Maya, and Camden Oliveira. Edwin Anguiano had two assists.
- Eastern Alamance won for the first time this season by defeating visiting Southeast Guilford 2-0 on first-half goals from Hudson Link and Kaden Oliver and 12 saves from goalkeeper Rafael Fornazari on Tuesday.
- Southeast Alamance’s Noah Teabout notched four goals and Ethan Martinez scored twice in Monday’s 9-0 victory against visiting Seaforth.
- Williams defeated visiting McMichael 3-0 on two goals from Aurelio Figueroa, one goal from Dawson Tanner, and four saves by Dylan Ward on Monday.
- Graham won 5-2 vs. visiting Eastern Guilford on Monday.
- River Mill’s first victory came with last Friday’s 10-1 romp against visiting Discovery Charter School
- The Burlington School won 5-4 against visiting Gate City of Pleasant Garden on Tuesday.
Volleyball
Western Alamance’s winning streak reached three with sweeps of Eastern Alamance and Cummings during the past week. Riley Walker’s 33 assists and Reese Walker’s 17 kills were highlights vs. Eastern.
- Eastern needed four sets to dispatch visiting Clover Garden on Monday, boosted by Gracie Jenkins’ 11 digs and Kayden Manning’s 10 kills.
Eastern swept visiting Williams on Tuesday night. That came a night after Williams topped Rockingham County in four sets at home.
- Southeast Alamance topped visiting Williams in four sets last week with Emily Troy’s 28 kills and Brooke Hardister’s 17 kills.
- Clover Garden swept visiting River Mill on Friday behind Halle Russell’s 11 kills and Hanna Tickle’s 19 assists.
- Burlington Christian Academy won two straight at home, sweeping Eastern Guilford and Carolina Friends. Sammy Dove recorded 15 kills in both matches.
- The Burlington School edged host Carolina Friends in five sets last week with Eryn Timmons registering 11 aces among her 26 service points.
Cross country
Burlington Christian Academy’s girls’ team cruised in Monday’s multi-team home meet at Cedarock Park, placing six of the top seven finishers.
Blakeley Bork was the individual champion in 20 minutes, 37.64 seconds for the 3.1-mile race.
After runner-up Jane Ronald of Trinity School of Durham, BCA’s Ellianna Bork (22:23.44), Mary Katherine Parham (22:50.22), Adalynn House (22:55.88), Carly Gresham (23:39.73), and Hazel Kleiman (24:09.60) were in the next spots. There were 42 runners.
In the boys’ race, Blaine Hamlett of High Point Christian was the winner in 19:03.96. BCA’s top finisher was Elisha Morton in ninth place (21:21.84).
