Trustees vote to outsource landscaping services

Alamance Community College’s trustees voted unanimously, 11-0, this week to approve a one-year contract with Aramark to provide grounds maintenance and landscaping services at the Graham campus for a total annual cost of $150,339.

The total annual cost of $150,339 for landscaping services that Aramark will provide to ACC includes: payroll expenses; a new vehicle lease; equipment/vehicle maintenance; and supplies, based on information that was provided for the trustees’ discussion. The company will furnish at least one supervisor and a full-time and part-time groundskeeper to handle landscaping at ACC’s main campus in Graham.

The college’s administration cited ongoing challenges with hiring landscapers, along with rising costs for labor and equipment, in asking the trustees to consider amending an existing contract with Aramark to include landscaping services.

ACC’s trustees had voted unanimously last month to extend an existing $1.2 million annual contract with Aramark for facilities management and custodial services by an extra year, through the end of October 2022.

The trustees’ vice chairman Gen. Blake Williams, who also serves as chairman of their building and grounds committee, said this week that the contract amendment for landscaping services will run through December 2022. At that point, the board could renew the contract with Aramark for an additional year or issue a new Request for Proposals in early 2023, he said.
