Law enforcement agencies have been called about two gunshot victims whose bodies were found in two seemingly unrelated incidents over the past five days.
Earlier today, at 10:45 a.m., Burlington police were dispatched to the 800 block of Railroad Street, where they found the body of a dead black man who appeared to have been shot to death. Officers are trying to identify the body and notify the next of kin, according to the department.
WEDNESDAY (SEPT. 29) UPDATE:
The gunshot victim found dead along Railroad Street in Burlington yesterday has been identified as Deykwon Gilmore, a black 18-year-old male from Burlington.

Police investigators believe his shooting occurred in the early morning hours of September 28.
Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office has issued a press release today about a body, also that of a black male, found beside a stretch of a rural road south of Graham last Friday morning, also dead from gunshot wounds. The body was found on Bruce Wood Road, off NC 54, several miles south of Graham.
Sheriff’s office investigators have been able to identify the victim as Jamel Ramel Haskins, black, male, 28, who resided in Durham County. His next of kin has been notified, according to the sheriff’s office.
Haskins has been verified as affiliating with gangs in Durham County, according to the sheriff’s office, which believes that the location of his death appears to be an isolated incident with no known ties to the neighborhood where his body was found.
Preliminary reports indicate that the victim suffered from gunshot wounds sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Detectives are still waiting for results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Both law enforcement agencies are asking for the public’s assistance in the two cases.
