Veterans Day off to an early start in Burlington

Veterans Day got off to an early start in Burlington on Wednesday as former service members and other local patriots gathered at Willowbrook Park to formally dedicate a “Veterans Overlook,” which occupies the one-time site of an American Legion Post.

Among those present were Burlington mayor Ian Baltutis, state senator Amy Galey, city councilman-elect Ronnie Wall, and retired businessman Dick Shirley.

The new park itself is a project of Burlington’s New Leaf Society, whose president, former county extension agent Rett Davis, was also present..

Among those who turned out for the ceremony, which was sponsored by the Burlington-based New Leaf Society, were veterans Steve Fishel, Bill Borst, Doug Moon, and Doug Ross, who formed part of the color guard for the event.
