Western Alamance divers place high in state meet

Western Alamance had a strong showing from sophomore divers Michaela Bentley and Courtney Moore in the Class 3-A swimming and diving state championships last week at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.

Bentley placed second with 376.35 points and Moore was third with 355.80. The winner was Lake Norman Charter’s Madilyn Varnum with 487.70.

Western’s Kensley Gasaway placed 13th in the 500 freestyle in 5 minutes, 37.01 seconds. Gasaway was 14th in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.54.

Abigale Robinson of Williams was 12th in the 50 freestyle in 26.22 seconds.

Western’s 40 team points placed the Warriors 16th.

For the boys, Western’s 200 freestyle relay of Jacob Miles, Zack Ollis, Eamon Hipps, and Wylie Kline was 14th in 1:39.79. The same group of Warriors finished 15th in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:44.31.
