Next game: tonight at Western

The games have come with tighter margins in the postseason for Western Alamance’s girls’ soccer team, but the Warriors have kept on winning those.
With goals from Kayley Lee and Callie Athas, Western defeated visiting Croatan 2-0 in Monday night’s Class 5-A East Region’s third round of the state playoffs.
The top-seeded Warriors scored one goal in each half vs. eighth-seeded Croatan (15-6-2). Cana Kaffenberger and Kennedy Vaughn each recorded an assist. Goalkeeper Camden Markey made nine saves.
Western (22-0) meets No. 12 seed Southern Nash (18-6) on Thursday night at home in the fourth round. The winner faces Oak Grove or Dixon in Tuesday’s regional final.
Athas and Lee each provided two goals as Western defeated No. 17 seed Cedar Ridge 4-0 in last Thursday’s second round. Markey made five saves.
- Victoria Lockamy’s first-half goal was enough for third-seeded Oak Grove in a 1-0 victory against sixth-seeded Eastern Alamance in Monday night’s third-round game.
Carmen DiFoggio made 12 saves for Oak Grove (17-5-2). It was the first shutout loss of the season for Eastern (15-4-2).
Maddy Loranger and Lilly Massey scored when Eastern topped No. 11 seed Currituck County 2-0 last Thursday in the second round. Bella Scott made 12 saves for the shutout.
- Kamrey Watkins scored in overtime as fourth-seeded Richlands nipped No. 13 seed Southeast Alamance in the East Region’s second round last Thursday.
Jayla Scott made 11 saves for Southeast (11-8-4), which suffered its fourth shutout loss of the season.
Class 6-A
Fifth-seeded Watauga edged No. 12 seed Williams 3-2 in overtime last Thursday in the West Region’s second round. The Bulldogs ended up 13-7-1.
- No. 17 seed Southern Alamance couldn’t hang with top-seeded Green-ville Rose in a 9-0 loss in the East Region’s second round last Thursday. The Patriots bowed out with a 12-13 record.
Class 1-A
Sixth-seeded Clover Garden lost 6-0 to No. 3 seed Thomas Jefferson in the West Region’s second round last Thursday. The Grizzlies finished with an 11-8 record.
