Western Alamance senior Zach Wilson had the top finish among Alamance County golfers in the state tournament.
Wilson posted a two-round score of 12-over-par 156 on Monday and Tuesday in Class 3-A at Foxfire Golf Club’s Red Course at Foxfire Village. With rounds of 74 and 82, he tied for 24th place.
Gryffin Brehler of Eastern Alamance tied for 38th at 161 (86, 75).
Williams teammates Jon Pellerito (85-83—168) and Jordan Harless (91-89—190) were tied for 57th and tied for 74th, respectively.
Boys’ tennis
Eight teams from around the state will compete Saturday at Burlington Tennis Center in the dual team state finals.
Finalists were scheduled to be determined in Wednesday’s regional finals.
The Class 2-A and Class 4-A finals begin at 9:30 a.m. and the Class 1-A and Class 3-A finals start at 12:30 p.m.
In the Class 3-A second round, Western Alamance lost 5-4 at Western Carteret last week. The Warriors finished with a 10-3 record in duals.
- In last week’s Class 3-A individual state tournament, the Western Alamance duo of Luke Durham and Sam Durham reached the doubles quarterfinals at Burlington Tennis Center. The Durham brothers defeated Hickory’s Clint Powers and Will More 6-4, 6-1 in the first round before bowing out by 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 to First Flight’s Anthony Vucinovic and JJ Woerner.
In Class 1-A at Cary Tennis Park, Mt. Airy’s Georgie Kriek eliminated Clover Garden’s Will Oldham 6-1, 6-1 in singles in the first round. In doubles, Elkin’s Aiden Ballard and Connor Ballard ousted River Mill’s Karsten Palmer and Charles Rohr 7-6 (4), 6-1 in the first round.
