A Mebane woman was inducted into the College Sports Communicators Hall of Fame last month.
Amy Yakola, who has worked for the Atlantic Coast Conference since 1998, was in the six-member induction class that was recognized during the organization’s convention in Las Vegas.
She holds the title of deputy commission/chief of external strategy with the ACC, overseeing the conference’s communications, public relations, and brand marketing.
Yakola, a Clemson graduate, has held various roles with the ACC, long considered a top confidant of now-retired league commissioner John Swofford. She has been a press conference moderator for College Football Playoff national championship games and held a similar role for women’s NCAA Final Fours.
She also has been involved with multiple ACC expansions and the launching of the ACC Network.
Her husband, Scott Yakola, works at Duke as the chair of the Health, Wellness and Physical Education department and a professor. He’s also boys’ golf coach at Alamance Christian School in Graham.
