Members of the Burlington Sock Puppets were on the wrong side of the result in the Appalachian League All-Star Game on Tuesday night at TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City, Tennessee.
The West defeated the East 4-1 in the game involving top players in the collegiate summer league.
Sock Puppets pitcher Jerek Hobb (Gardner-Webb) worked 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, but he gave up the go-ahead run and was tagged as the game’s losing pitcher. Burlington pitcher Bromley Thornton (UNC Wilmington) pitched one hitless inning of relief with two strikeouts.
Sock Puppets infielder Noah Murray (Duke) played as a reserve second baseman, going 0-for-2 at the plate. Sock Puppets outfielder Tyle Albright (Duke) was picked for the game but didn’t play.
Murray is Burlington’s leader in hits (33), doubles (10) and home runs (5). He also has walked 29 times with 25 strikeouts and has 12 stolen bases.
The Sock Puppets’ only remaining home game comes Tuesday night vs. the Danville Otterbots.
