Cummings junior D’Anna Cotton won multiple events in the JDL Holiday Invitational at JDL Fast Track earlier this month in Winston-Salem.
Cotton claimed the 55-meter hurdles in 8.19 seconds in girls’ competition on December 21. She also won her division in the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches) and triple jump (39-1).
The meet included entrants from 121 schools and track clubs from five states, Cummings coach Donnie Davis said.
Junior Diamond Moore of Cummings was second in the long jump (17-10¼), third in the triple jump (38-4).
Cummings senior Brooke Packingham was third in the triple jump (36-4½) and took eighth in the long jump (16-8). Sophomore Honesti Trollinger’s personal-best time of 8.66 seconds put her eighth in the 55 hurdles.
Cotton, Moore, Packingham, and Trollinger have qualified for February’s state meet in several events. Davis said the Cavaliers should be contenders for a state championship.
On the boys’ side, Cummings junior Devin Witherspoon, in his first indoor meet, placed 34th out of 130 entrants in the 55 hurdles in 6.77 seconds.
