Graves dubbed housing ‘commissioner of the year’

A long-time member of the Burlington Housing Authority has received some notice from a nonprofit association that represents housing and community development agencies in North and South Carolina.

The Carolinas Council of Housing, Redevelopment & Codes Officials has formally designated Michael J. Graves as its North Carolina “commissioner of the year” for 2025.

The Carolinas Council bestowed this honor on Graves during an annual conference last month in recognition of his role as an advocate for the city’s housing authority and its mission to provide affordable housing for people in need.

Although Graves wasn’t able to attend the conference for health reasons, the award was accepted on his behalf by the housing authority’s CEO Veronica Revels. Revels, who also happens to be president elect of the Carolinas Council, is shown here with the organization’s current president Allen “Buddy” Brown.
