Carol Stubbs McQueen

Carol Stubbs McQueen, 92, of Burlington passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025 at her home with family by her side.

She was born February 27, 1933 in Oliver Springs, Tennessee to Louis Leonard Stubbs and Nell Wright Stubbs, both deceased.

Shortly after high school she married Madison Howard and they had four children. She later was married to Edward William McQueen who also had four children, giving them a blended family of eight. They enjoyed 22 happy years together prior to his death.

Carol used to always say “Do what’s right and do what’s good. Be kind and help others. The world can always use one kinder person.”

She was a homemaker, a machine operator at various Burlington hosiery mills, owned a dress shop and was a sales associate for Belk’s Department store for many years.

Carol was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She also made friends everywhere she went.

She was a member of the Burlington Shrinettes Club and a member of St. Marks Community Church.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased in death by: her son Ronald; her siblings Ruth Robbins, Jimmy Stubbs, Raymond Stubbs, Tom Stubbs and Cecil Stubbs.

Surviving are: her brother Hubert Stubbs; her children: David Howard (Janet), Susan Capps (Ken), Gary Howard (Sherrie), Gary McQueen (Janet), Patricia Coleman (Keith), June Zimmerman and Tina Coble (David); fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at St. Marks Community Church, 1230 St. Marks Church Road, Burlington, NC. A visitation will follow the service.
