Jake Christman became a distinguished athlete for Western Alamance less than a decade ago.
He’ll be coaching against the Warriors in a football game this week.
“It’s kind of weird, for sure,” Christman said.
On Friday night in High Point, Western visits Southwest Guilford, where Christman is the first-year offensive coordinator.
Christman was hired in the spring to join the Southwest Guilford staff under first-year coach Kirkley Russell. The assistant coach is a nephew to Southwest Guilford athletics director Brindon Christman.
A 2018 Western graduate, Christman was the area’s top offensive player in football in 2017 as a running back. He also was a baseball standout for the Warriors.
He went on to play for Elon’s football team, so he was never far away. Since then, he spent time as an assistant coach at Western, where he also was an assistant boys’ golf coach.
“Just a change,” Christman said. “Learn, get to try something different.”
At Southwest, he’ll be a weight-room instructor during school days.
