Graham’s city council swore in its new mayor, Chelsea Dickey, and a new city councilman, Jim Young, Tuesday night; also sworn in was reelected city councilman Bobby Chin. City councilman Ricky Hall was also reelected Tuesday night and sworn in as the city’s mayor pro tem.
A succession of officials served as the administrator of the oath to each of the three newly-elected or reelected officials.
The city’s new mayor, Dickey, was sworn in by attorney and former clerk of court Hunt Johnson. Holding the Bible and their 18-month-old son, Matteo, was Dickey’s husband, Justin Paggao.
Bobby Chin, who was reelected to a second term, was sworn in by district court judge Craig Turner, as his wife Karen held the Bible.
The newest member of the city council, Jim Young, was sworn in by outgoing state representative Steve Ross, as his wife Karry held the Bible.
Hall was reelected as the council’s mayor pro tem, and he was sworn in by city clerk Renee Ward, as his wife Judy held the Bible. Hall, who recently underwent foot surgery, used a knee scooter throughout the proceedings and remained on the floor level rather than attempt to ascend the steps to the council dais. He was recognized and made motions from his seat there.
A standing-room only audience filled the council chambers to watch the proceedings. Among those in attendance from other jurisdictions were Mebane council members Montrena Hadley and Sean Ewing and Burlington city councilman Ian Baltutis. School board members Seneca Rogers and Tameka Harvey were also present.
