Mason Murphy scored a career-high 29 points as Eastern Alamance handled visiting Southern Alamance for a 72-42 triumph Friday night in Mid-Carolina Conference boys’ basketball.
Murphy, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, drained three 3-pointers.
“I was locked in,” he said. “I try to be consistent throughout the game.”
Eastern coach Parrish Walker said the Eagles understand what Murphy can provide.
“They guys really buy into getting him going,” Walker said.
Eastern trailed 9-8 after the first quarter before a 3-pointer from Kamaal Smith and two 3s from Hunter Eichmann. The Eagles built a 21-10 lead before Jasiah Allen gave Southern its first second-quarter field goal with 2:47 left before halftime.
With a 3-pointer, a three-point play and an offensive putback, Murphy went off for eight points in the last minute of the half, which ended with Eastern up 34-17.
“Controlling the glass has been a big thing for us,” Walker said. “I think we have a pretty complete team if everyone does their role.”
Eichmann finished with 16 points and Christian Hester had nine points.
Allen’s eight points were tops for Southern, which shot 8-for-24 on free throws.

Colby Elliott poured in 30 points as Williams won 83-63 at Graham on Friday night in the Mid-Carolina Conference.
Isaiah Long tacked on 15 points, Kyrian Fuller and Amarion Richmond each had 12 points, and Robbie Davis finished with 11 points. That outcome put the Bulldogs at 6-1, 2-0.
Micah Woods with 18 points and Kameron Mason with 12 points were tops for Graham.
- Western Alamance’s Drew Cohn scored 22 points in a 58-52 road victory against Roxboro Person in the Mid-Carolina Conference.
Jayden Jones pitched in with 15 points and Camden Oliviera had 10 points for Western (3-2, 2-0). Roxboro Person is 5-3, 1-1.
- Southeast Alamance won 84-52 at winless Cummings on Friday night. The Stallions improved 6-2 overall, 2-0 in the Mid-Carolina Conference.
Last Thursday, Southeast bashed host Orange 81-53.
