Former Mebane city manager David Cheek, who retired from his municipal post in February, has gone back to work. Cheek has accepted a new position with Raleigh-based Bobbitt, a full-service design-build and construction management firm.
Cheek will be based in the Triad, where the company says it hopes he can build on personal and professional relationships from his 31-year career in county and city government. Cheek served as assistant county manager, county manager, as well as assistant city manager and city manager in Mebane; in between those jobs, he was the finance director for Alamance Community College.
Earlier this year as he prepared to retire from his Mebane post, Cheek was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest civilian honor awarded by the governor.
Cheek and his wife Tammy live in Mebane.
