Dorsett receives Copland scholarship to attend UNC-CH

Avery Dorsett, a senior at River Mill Academy in Graham and son of Stacey Davis, has been awarded the James R. Copland, Jr. and Lillian G. Copland Scholarship to attend UNC-Chapel Hill beginning in the fall. This is the first time in the 26-year history of the scholarship that a student from a charter school has received the scholarship.

Avery is interested in studying business management and entrepreneurship.

The amount of the scholarship is $11,000 per academic year, which may be applied to tuition, fees, or any other University charges or expenses. In addition, the Copland Scholarship provides a one-time benefit of $6,000 for a University-approved summer, semester, or year-long study abroad program during his enrollment at Carolina.

The combined value of the scholarship is $50,000 over the course of his four-year undergraduate degree. Dorsett is required to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be enrolled full-time in order for the scholarship to be renewed each year.
