Burlington will be the site for portions of high school state finals again in boys’ tennis and baseball.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced the venues for spring championships last week, keeping a pair of longtime championship locations in Burlington in the mix.
The dual team state finals for boys’ tennis will be played May 15-16 at Burlington Tennis Center.
A week prior to that, individual finals for Class 3-A and Class 4-A will be at the Burlington location, while other classes will go to Cary Tennis Park, North Main Athletic Complex (formerly Ting Park) in Holly Springs, or Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh.
Burlington Athletic Stadium will hold baseball finals for four classifications – two on May 27-28 and two others May 29-30 – for best-of-3 series. Specific assignments for the classifications will be determined closer to the dates.
With the NCHSAA going from four to eight classifications, it has doubled the number of teams and dates used for baseball finals and some other sports.
The other baseball site will be the stadium at North Main Athletic Complex, which has been a recent finals venue.
Best-of-3 softball finals also are slated for May 27-28 and May 29-30 with games at Duke and UNC Greensboro.
The boys’ golf finals May 11-12 are set for Gates Four Golf and Country Club (Class 1-A and 2-A) in Fayetteville, Longleaf Golf and Family Club (Class 3-A and 4-A) in Southern Pines, Sapona Golf Club (Class 5-A and 6-A) in Lexington, and Pinehurst No. 8 (Class 7-A and 8-A).
The track and field championships will remain at North Carolina A&T from May 13-16, with two classifications on each of those days.
Girls’ soccer championship games will be held at Durham Memorial Stadium from May 28-30, with specific classifications for each date to be determined later.
Lacrosse finals for boys and girls are set for May 29-30 at Lenoir-Rhyne’s Moretz Stadium in Hickory.
