Two men face multiple criminal charges after they were allegedly caught driving through the town of Haw River with a fake license plate gracing their vehicle.
Jakyle Cincere Stokes and JyKwan Edzavor Daye were both taken into custody after they attracted the notice of some sheriff’s deputies who were making their way along Keck Road in the small hours of the morning on Friday.
According to the sheriff’s office, Stokes, who was behind the wheel of the vehicle, was unable to provide a license at the request the deputies. It later emerged that the 27-year-old black male, who hails from 3332 NC 87 North in Yanceyville, had previously had his license revoked. Deputies also discovered that Stokes had no liability insurance on the car he was driving and had three arrest warrants for communicating threats and two sets of missed court dates.
The deputies went on to place Stokes under arrest for misdemeanors related to the counterfeit license plate, the revoked driver’s license, and the non-existent liability insurance. He also faces two additional misdemeanor violations for the possession of marijuana and an unspecified Schedule VI controlled substance. He has been placed under a $5,000 unsecured bond since his arrest.
Meanwhile, deputies ordered Daye to clear out of the vehicle’s passenger seat and, at which point, a baggie that appeared to contain cannabis allegedly fell from his lap. A further search revealed that the 23-year-old black male, of 916 South Beaumont Avenue in Burlington, was carrying a loaded handgun equipped with an illegal machine-gun conversion device.
The sheriff’s office has gone on to charge Daye with felonies for the illegal possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon and the possession of a weapon of mass destruction. He also faces misdemeanors for illegally carrying a concealed weapon, the possession of a controlled substance, and the possession of drug paraphernalia. No bond was initially set in Daye’s case.
