Police apprehend suspect in June night club shooting

Police in Burlington have announced the arrest of a man who was wanted for allegedly shooting two people at an area night club in June.

According to the city’s police department, Kevin Eugene Beckham II was taken into custody last Wednesday for the attempted murders of Auldone Edwards and Matthew Cobb on June 5.

The 19-year-old Gibsonville resident had been sought for these shootings ever since he allegedly opened fire at Club Mamba, a venue that, at the time, operated at 2371 Corporation Parkway in Burlington.

According to police, Edwards was rushed to a local hospital for treatment immediately after the shooting. Cobb, meanwhile, was subsequently arrested in Graham after he and several other suspects allegedly fled from a police officer who tried to pull them over for a registration violation.

Cobb reportedly refused treatment for his injuries once he was apprehended, albeit not without difficulty, by members of Graham’s municipal police force. Police officers in Graham also reportedly found small cache of weapons on Cobb and his associates at the time of their capture.

In the wake of this shooting, Burlington’s police department reported the arrest of 24-year-old Kareem Dejuan Bethea as an accessory to Beckham’s alleged murder attempts.

In the meantime, the proprietor of Club Mamba surrendered his license to dispense alcohol after agents with N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement issued criminal warrants against him and three of the bouncers he had working that night. Yet, it wasn’t until last week that law enforcement officials could announce the arrest of the suspected shooter whose actions had set off this whole chain of events.

According to Burlington’s police department, Beckham has been jailed in Guilford County under a bond of $250,000.
