Laila Anderson’s season-high 21 points weren’t enough for Elon’s women’s basketball team in an 87-64 loss at College of Charleston on Sunday in the Coastal Athletic Association.
The former The Burlington School guard shot 4-for-6 on 3-pointers and also grabbed four rebounds.

Last Friday night, Ashanti Fox scored a season-best 17 points and Tyana Walker had 15 points when Elon won 72-62 at UNC Wilmington. Anderson had 13 points.
Fox was named the CAA Rookie of the Week after averaging 13 points and 3.5 assists in two games.
The Phoenix (7-10 overall, 2-3 CAA) is home Friday night vs. North Carolina A&T (7-9, 2-3).
Men’s basketball
Elon secured a split of a two-game trip by winning 89-85 at Hofstra on Saturday afternoon behind Chandler Cuthrell’s 23 points, Bryson Cokley’s 19 points, Kacper Klaczek’s 15 points, and Ja’Juan Carr’s 11 points and six assists.
The Phoenix made 11 of its final 12 free-throw attempts. Elon committed seven turnovers two days after a season-high 18 giveaways at Northeastern.
Hofstra (13-6, 4-2), which owns road victories against Pittsburgh and Syracuse, held solo possession of second place, and is now in a three-way tie that includes Elon and College of Charleston, where the Phoenix visits Saturday.
Elon’s 85-78 loss last Thursday at Northeastern involved wide momentum swings. The Phoenix trailed 25-6 before pulling even 38-38 late in the first half. Elon was up 72-65 with eight minutes remaining.
Cokley poured in a career-high 26 points and Cuthrell had 19 points.
Elon (12-7, 4-2) is home Thursday night vs. Towson (11-9, 3-4).
