The former Graham man who was acquitted of two counts of first-degree murder by an Alamance County jury last week pleaded guilty this week to helping another defendant to escape from the Alamance County jail in 2024.
Tyshawn Esamuel Wiley, 20, black, male, pleaded guilty in Alamance County superior court on Monday morning to felony conspiracy to escape from jail and feloniously aiding and abetting another defendant’s escape from jail, according to a transcript of his plea that was subsequently filed by Alamance County superior court.

Wiley had been charged in October 2024 with felony conspiracy to escape from jail and felony aiding and abetting escape from the Alamance County jail, where he was being held, pending trial for first-degree murder. The other defendant had been charged with felony discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling, according to Alamance County court files.
An Alamance County jury acquitted Wiley last Tuesday afternoon of two counts of first-degree murder in the August 25, 2022 shooting deaths of Melvin Wiley and Malik Martin, both 16, at Graham Village Apartments along East Hanover Road.
However, it appears unlikely that Wiley will serve any additional time in jail after pleading guilty to conspiracy and aiding/abetting escape from the local jail.

Wiley had no prior criminal convictions and was given credit for 584 days already served in Alamance County jail, while awaiting trial for first-degree murder, based on a judgment worksheet that Alamance County superior court judge C. Douglas Green signed on Monday. The court file lists Wiley’s latest address as 1212 Collins Drive in Burlington.
The defendant whose escape that Wiley pleaded guilty to aiding, Jasiah James Miller, 20, black, male, had been charged with numerous felonies when he was charged with escaping from the jail in late 2024.

Neither defendant’s court file sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the escape from the Alamance County jail.
Miller, then of 112 Shortleaf Drive in Raeford, had been charged with: felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction and misdemeanor possession of a concealed gun in February 2024; and felony discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle in April 2024.
Miller was subsequently charged with felony conspiracy to escape from the local jail and felony escape in October 2024. Both charges were ultimately voluntarily dismissed, as was a June 2025 charge for possession of a controlled substance in jail, in October 2025 as part of a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office.
Miller was convicted in Alamance County superior court on October 8, 2025 of felony discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle, felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction, and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon, based on his court files.
Miller is currently serving an active prison sentence ranging between four years, three months and six years, 2 months, according to the state Department of Adult Corrections (DAC). He is incarcerated at Richmond Correctional Institution, a medium-custody prison for men located about 90 miles south of Alamance County in Richmond County. Miller’s projected release is set for October 12, 2028, according to his DAC file.
Miller continues to face two charges in Alamance County for misdemeanor larceny, for offenses that allegedly occurred in June 2025, which remain pending in district court.
Wiley was represented for his latest court case by attorney Lisa Noda of Greensboro, who had also represented him for his murder trial.
